skid steer roller performance vs roller compactor performance

$

Thinking of a skid steer roller compactor and wondering how they compare in performance with a small roller compactor like a Compac T40D a 9000 pound machine, 54 inch wide drum.
What depth can the skid steer compactor actually compact sand?
What compaction will a skid steer achieve in sand, 85%?
Any one have one (skid steer compactor) and if so what are your though's on them, are they worth it, what is wrong with them?
Do they work with tires or only with tracks on the skid steer?

So my 84" roller stopped having power steering. It is extremely difficult to turn, there is no help from the pump. The pump looks okay, but is getting extremely hot. Is there a valve that could be bypassing the fluid after the pump?

Galion roll-o-matic roller wont roll!

I am trying to help a friend get a roller going. It worked fine when it was parked a few years ago. Now he got it started but it wont move. The torque converter has fluid it it and it appears it works. The tag on torque converter says Clark. The shafts coming out of trans w/ the clutches does not turn. What does the part between the torque converter and the trans? It says it is a Governor? What is its function? I added oil to it, it was empty, can that stop rotation to trans? I am not very familiar with this machine, but I figured rotation has to go thru torque converter and the governor then trans. Thanks for any advice!! I dont have model # but it has a approx 4' dia drum on back and 3' dia. drum on front.

I was tolded the Hydraulic pump for rear axle was bad ..
After looking it over I found that the roller reverse and drive axle was turning forward ...
Checked the linkage and axle pump linkage has loosened up and causing the problem .
Now roller is faster then rear axle ...Is this a adjustment made on linkage from axle pump to roller pump or do I need to adjust Hydraulic pressures ??

IR DD-158HFA Compactor, Electronic Control Module Replacement

Hey all, I am working on a Ingersoll Rand Dual Drum Vibratory Compactor. Model DD-158HFA. This unit was purchased right around 2006 or 2007, the owner has had a problem with it for years where for no reason the parking brake comes on randomly. Obviously they cant operate like that. The mechanics have troubleshot down through all of the switches and hydraulics and are stumped. The dealer, Volvo, is also at a loss and cant figure it out. Basically it looks like there is a random fault in the VANSCO Control Module that runs the whole machine. The dealer cant help and isnt able to get a new one due to the changeover from IR to Volvo.

What I am doing is taking out the Vansco unit and replacing it with a mobile hardened PLC, I have the manuals from IR and have figured most of the Inputs and Outputs. I have programmed the safety interlocks required. The only thing I am not sure of is the Vibrations per min signal, and what type of a signal is coming from the drum speed sensors.

I am assuming that the VPM signal is an analog signal from the controller to the gauge on the console, probably 0-5Vdc. The drum speed sensors probably output either a pulse output like an encoder or mag pickup, or an analog output, but more than likely a pulse output.

Any thoughts on these two signals?

Thanks,

Will

Cat CS533E vibratory issues

Cat CS533E ASL 150-200 serial number range. 2600 hours

A couple of issues -

The high side vibrate won't engage. The switch on the operator station seemed to be sticking on the high side so replaced it, didn't fix it. Low vibrate works. There are a handful of relays in the fuse box. Checked vibrate fuse (only one) and it was good. Is there a relay for the high and low vibrate? The diagram doesn't label the relays.

Second and more serious issue. We have been using the machine steady for the last three days. This morning during the walk around we noticed there was what seemed like oily dirt on the one factory hole on the inside of the drum.

This was what it looked like this afternoon, it became much worse.

I need some help as I know very little about the vibratory system and what could be causing this. My limited mechanical mind tells me the high side vibrate issue is electrical and the leak in the drum is not related to the problem.:beatsme

I went to the online Cat parts diagram system and when I clicked on the drum/vibrate system it said "no documents match your search".

There is also a small fuel leak at the pump and a hyd. leak at the for end of the hyd. pump but not bad enough to break it down yet. Poor bastard of a machine shakes itself to death.

Any help is appreciated as it has to complete this job, with or without vibration. We can use it as just a static compactor with no vibration until I can get it back to the shop for more "invasive" repairs.

Rolling recycled asphalt

$

Hello,

I'm looking to put down about 6" of recycled asphalt (it's been put through a screener, so no big chunks) over an existing private road/driveway made up of recycled asphalt. In the past the recycled asphalt was put down without rolling it. I'm hoping to improve the durability of the road by rolling it, as well as hopefully putting a better grade than the previous contractor.

I can rent a Wacker RD-12 for $100/day, this is a 1.5 ton (I think) roller. Is this big enough? I assume I'll only be able to roll max 4" at a time. How are they on slopes?
My plan was to work from the entrance in. This means that the dump truck delivering the next load would be driving over the newly rolled asphalt. Is this dumb? I would like to do it this way since it will be much easier for me to get the grade right.

I'm spreading/grading with a backhoe.

Thanks for any insight.

Some recycled asphalt I put down last week, this was left over from years past in a pile at the base of the road. It has many large chunks in it. The material I'm getting now is much better. No chunks and recently screened.

This is the sloped part of the road. I may not even try it due to time, but I'm wondering how the smooth rollers work on slopes.

Wondering if anyone out there has a mid to late 70's case 252 roller with the 2 cylinder hatz diesel motor. All i need is the numbers off the starter. I thought i bought the right starter and already gave my old starter as a core. Turns out it was the wrong starter and the old starter is gone along with the numbers i need off of it. Any help is appreciated. I know its a bosch starter if that gets me any closer.
